The Montana Governor has signed a bill banning TikTok
The Montana Governor has signed a bill banning TikTok. The bill is expected to take effect on January 2024 if it is unchallenged in court.
For some years, a lot so suspicion has been raised over the Chinese-owned media-sharing platform. The central concern has been privacy issues with many believing that the Chinese government is prying on the operations of social media company. TikTok has in the past refuted the above accusation and said that Beijing is not interfering with its operations.
Several politicians in the USA have been calling for a wider ban of the App, and now Montana State has become the first US state to ban the app. Under the newly signed bill companies will be fined daily if they allow the app on their stores, but no penalties will be imposed on individuals.
The social media platform believes that the ban is an infringement on people’s right to freedom of expression and could challenge the legislation in court. If unchallenged the ban will take effect on January 1st, 2024.
