A Chinese live streamer with the online name “Brother Three Thousand” in China’s Tik-Tok like app, Duoyin, was found dead in his house hours after he livestreamed himself heavily drinking several bottles of Baijiu spirit, a colorless Chinese clear grain liquor which is said to contain 35-60% alcohol content.
China’s local media identified the man as a 34-year-old resident of Jiansu province who lost an earlier drinking competition to other live streamers. As a form of self-inflicted punishment, he resorted to drinking the liquor but could not live to tell the story.
He was found dead after 12 hour of the live stream and was cremated and buried on the 20th May. His death has sparked wide out cry with many calling for increased regulation of the app. Showing drinking content on Duoyin has now been banned with fines or penalties for any offender.
