An email seen by BBC shows that OceanGate CEO, Stockton Rush was warned about the safety of the Titan submersible and the potential danger to its passenger. Rob McCallum had warned that OceanGate should allow independent body to certify the submersible before putting it to use.
Stockton Rush according to the BBC source responded to the tensed discussion that he was “tired of industry players who try to use a safety argument to stop innovation”
McCallum told BBC that he severally warned that proper certification of the sub should be allowed before its use for tourism. OceanGate felt Mr. McCallum concerns were baseless cries which was regarded by the company’s boss as a serious personal insult, according to a report by BBC.
After the tense exchange OceanGate lawyers according to McCallum threatened legal action against him.
Stockton Rush, was the pilot of the Titan submersible who died alongside other 4 passengers when the sub suffered a catastrophic implosion as it attempted to dive to the site of the Titanic wreckage. Parts of the wrecked sub were found near the titanic wreckage.
Investigators are now attempting to find out what led to the catastrophic implosion of the submersible.
