Another US airport worker dies after being sucked into airplane engine

A US airport worker has died after being sucked into the engine of an airplane. His death sparked great outcry about safety procedures. But airport officials certified that there were no operational issues with the airplane and the airport involved.

Medical examination report now suggests that the 21 year old man took his own life. Delta Air Lines, airbus A319 was taxiing to the San Antonio international airport gate after arriving from Los Angeles when the worker sucked into the engine.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) believes that there is no need for further investigations since no operational issues existed.

Earlier in January, a Piedmont Airlines worker died after being sucked into an Embraer 170 aircraft. The Airlines was fined for failing to safeguard the worker from such accident.

According Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OHSA) press release “Piedmont Airlines failed to follow required safety procedures to protect ground crew member from suffering fatal injuries”. A penalty of US$ 15,625 was issued to the airline.
