In Israel, Health Ministry has approved cultured beef meat to be sold to the public. The approval allows Aleph Farms to sell its cultured meat in Israel. This is the first time cultured beef have been approved for for public sales.

Previously Singapore and US approved the sales of cultured chicken. Due to the growing demand for proteins and the need for non-living protein sources, there is an upsurge of interest in alternative food sources.

Aleph Farm, headquartered in Rehovot, Israel, is seeking to have its first wave of products in Singapore and Switzerland as well, once approvals are granted.

According to the times of Israel, the meat tissue were grown in tanks that acted as fermenters. Muscle tissues have very high capacity to grow and when optimal conditions are provided, they are capable of growing outside the body. The company leveraged on this ability to successfully produce the world’s first cultured beef meat.

The approval for the cultured beef sale to the public came after careful health checks were conducted on the product. The company now have to work with the Israeli’s Health ministry to roll out the product for purchase. Aleph hopes to have its first products for purchase towards the later part of 2024.
